Kandy is a charming city that coruscate brilliantly since ancient kings’ era. Kandy is located in the mountainous and thickly forested interior of the island. The city is located in between multiple mountain ranges including the Knuckles mountain range and the Hanthana Mountain Range. Though, Kandy is located significant above sea level. Temple Of The Tooth

The Temple of Tooth at the final location of the Sacred Kandy is Tooth (Left Canine) of the Buddha, which was brought to Sri Lanka during the reign of King KirtisriMegahavanna (301-328) by Prince Danta and Princess Hemamala from the kingdom of Kalinga, India. The Temple of the Tooth is an art and history lover’s paradise. The first thing a visitor sees as they approach the entrance gates which lie over the moat is the large carved entrance arch with its elephants on either side. It has seen bloody wars and peaceful reigns and is one of the most historical places still standing in the island.

Peradeniya Botanical Garden

Peradeniya Royal Botanical Gardens, is the largest of the botanical gardens of Sri Lanka. The gardens display over 4000 different species of plants, regarded amongst the most superior in Asia. The highlight is the spectacular Orchid collection and mighty avenue of palm trees. In addition to a plethora of flowering plants, there is also an extensive collection of medicinal plants and spices which can be spotted on your meander across the gardens.

Bahirawakanda Vihara Buddha Statue

The Bahirawakanda Vihara Buddha Statue is situated on a hill named just 2km from the Temple of the Tooth Relic. This beautifully sculptured which Buddha statue was built in 1972. Standing at 88 feet, it is considered as one of the biggest Buddha statues in Sri Lanka. The Bahirawakanda Buddha Statue is located alongside the Sri Maha Bodhi Temple which is on the top of the Bahirawa Kanda hill and the statue shows Lord Buddha situated in the Nirvana pose and can be seen from the whole city of Kandy.

Embekke Devalaya

Embekke devalaya is a famous place for woodcarving which is located at Gampola, Kandy district. This devalaya is decided by “ God Katharagama”. Worshiped lots of local Hindu people and Sinhala people. Devalaya was first built by King Wickramabahu III (1357– 1374 AD). It is recorded in history that it was a three-storied building. Today we can only see the remaining structure with the wooden pillars.

Kandy war cemetery

This cemetery is known as the Pitakande Military Cemetery. This is a British military Cemetery in Kandy. Soldiers of the British Empire who were killed during World War II and soldiers who died during World War I. The Army Vaults Service transferred to this cemetery service war graves from Divatalawa. This is open every day between 07:00-16:00. 1.5km beyond the entrance to the Peradeniya Botanical Garden.

Gal Maduwa Temple

This is an old temple in the Kandy district this building was built on rocks only that’s why this temple called as “Gal module”.This temple is an exciting building of strange architecture. This temple is built by King Keerthi Sri Rajasinghe. Temple is 125 years old.

Lankathilaka Viharaya

Lankathilaka viharaya is a historic temple with is located at Udunuwara, Kandy. The history of the temple goes back to the 14th century. Build by King Buwanekabahu IV. The vihara buildings have been built on a natural rock called Panhalgala Rock. Abodes for Buddhist monks at the base of the rock. The temple buildings have three sectors, the actual temple building, the Dageba, and finally the Bo tree. The temple-like trips of stairs have two arrivals, leading to two different and disconnected sections in the same building. Magul Maduwa

Magul Maduwa is a place the king use to meet his ministers. This building is also called the Assembly Hall or the Audience Hall. A number of key events in our history have taken place. This place that the British handed over the death sentence to the Sri Lankan loyalists, Madugalle Disave and the Keppatipola Disave. In the early days of the British occupation, the British Proselytizers used this Audience Hall as their Church building in their change process.
